Make Your Own Cleaning Schedule for the Working Mom

I have had a really pleasant summer off my toddler, but the end is looming. Don’t get me wrong, I love fall. Everything about the season is magical to me. But it also means I will have limited time to do the things I’ve lazily spent all day doing now. To get ahead of myself, I made a “Make Your Own Cleaning Schedule” that I will follow once I’m back to work. Make sure you scroll down to download it. There is an example I filled out and a blank one for you to make your own!

P.S. I moved into a larger house now and I’ve come up with a newer, better cleaning system that only takes 15 minutes a day! Make sure to check it out.

The Basics

  • It should take about an hour total, split up throughout the day.
  • Right now, Mac won’t be much help. But older children could definitely pitch in and do their share.

Why Make Your Own Cleaning Schedule?

There are tons of cleaning schedules online. But I live in a small townhouse. None of these schedules seemed to fit my needs. I don’t need a whole day to clean my dining room when it is a part of my living room. But my entry way is larger and collects lots of dust and dirt.

So how did I decide on this schedule? Here are the steps I took to make my own cleaning schedule.

Divide Up Your House

I figured out how to divide my house into five areas. I figured the weekends could be for any catch-up cleaning and other ares. I ended up with the bathrooms, the kitchen, the entry/laundry room, the bedrooms, and the living room/dining room.

Sort Out Into Days

I sorted them into the days. The bathrooms are my least favorite area to clean, so I figured I would be the most motivated on Monday to clean them. On the flipside, the living room is easy. I put that on Friday because I can clean it as we relax because it is the area where we all congregate.

List Everyday Routines

Then I made a list of things I needed to get done everyday. That includes laundry, dishes, and a few more small cleaning. I decided I could spare about 20 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes after work, and 30 minutes in the evening. That is an hour total to keep my house picked up and clean.

The Trick: Implementing It

Here is the part that is tricky: actually following the schedule. I have already talked about my secrets to productivity. I will be writing my daily routine in my bullet journal so I make sure I follow it. This is also one of those things where once I see how this schedule makes my house look so nice, I think I’ll be able to keep it up.
